PoemflowersI'm a lyricist and poet, and have discovered the delights of the digital camera. Here is a bouquet of words and images from my heart to yours.

I know the truth about myself.
The truth is: I am a child of God, a reflection of God’s nature, a place in this world where God expresses through my thoughts, words, and creative action. When I focus on the sense of God’s Presence within the very core of my being I am focusing on all the love, harmony, beauty, order, peace, joy, and plenitude that is the nature of God. All of that love, harmony, beauty, order, peace, joy, and plenitude becomes mine in power and ease. Because the power of God is greater than all my fears, doubts, and resistance, this perfect plenitude flows in, through, and around me. As a light turned on chases shadows and darkness away, so all my illusions of poverty, lack, fear, and self-condemnation dissipate in the warm light of God’s love. God within me is the mirror that reflects my true nature. Circumstances change and conditions come and go. But the Radiant Reality of God’s presence within my heart illumines my life and shows me the truth about myself. I am one with God, a beloved child of God.

I'm a writer
And writers always End up turning straw to gold Making something Out of horrible nothing Or sweet unevenness We write the fairy tales That give meaning to life And search for more meaning Beyond the fairy tales I'm a writer Spinning straw to gold Turning the clock back Or making it run forward At the point of a pen And so Even though I see an overwhelming pile of straw One day I'll see a mountain of gold
Prayer Rose © Candy Paull
I wrote this lyric a couple of years ago. It was inspired by belly dance (I adore the way a silk veil moves like liquid fire) and by experiences with group movement in Interplay. The photo was taken last Friday when I had an amazing session with golden Safari roses, a few props, and the glorious sun shining down through my skylight. I call the series Prayer Roses. They look like what prayer feels like.
Behind the Veil
verse 1 I look into your eyes Deep pools of eternity Beyond illusions of this earth I see a greater reality Another world is smiling at me chorus Behind the veil Each dancer dances Behind the veil Beyond the dreams and trances We release what fades and dies Embracing our eternal lives And catch a glimpse of a love that does not fail When we learn to see behind the veil verse 2 This body is a veil There’s more here than what we see Eyes like mirrors reflecting truth Time dancing with eternity And I see heaven smile at me chorus repeat bridge Now we see through a glass darkly One day face to face Till then we can dance with each other Touch the joy and feel the grace chorus repeat © Candy Paull 2009

I moved to Nashville in 1993 to pursue my songwriting dreams. I have been privileged to work with many great co-writers over the years. Still the lyrics come. This one has yet to see its partnership evolve…
The Fullness of Time
Verse 1 A green apple picked too soon Tastes sour and hard Trying to squeeze love out of life Brings pain to the heart In God’s good time the fruit will grow In rain and wind and sun And when the heart is ready The Beloved one will come Chorus In the fullness of time The harvest arrives When love is ready And the fruit is ripe I’ve been waiting for you All my life Now the season of love has come In the fullness of time Verse 2 I used to try so hard to Make my dreams come true Wanting to squeeze love out of life To pluck the bitter fruit In God’s good time you made me glad I taught my heart to wait And when we were both ready Love brought us to today repeat chorus tag Rooted in the Presence and peace of God At long last ready for the fullness of love © 1999/2009 Candy Paull

This one resonates after all these years. I still think it deserves musical magic.
Children of the War
I've seen them laugh But never without sadness in their eyes I've seen them smile But there's a crying child inside They can't trust anybody They can't let down their guard For love has betrayed them And wounded their hearts Children of the war Victims of our crimes Caught in the middle of our fights To prove who's wrong or right Oh yes They once believed our lies But not any more Cause they're children of the war I've seen divorce And swore it would never happen to us But when we fight Who's left to pick the pieces up How we hurt our children Who don't understand our war For we have betrayed them They carry our scars Children of the war Victims of our crimes Caught in the middle of our fights To prove who's wrong or right Oh yes They once believed our lies But not any more Cause they're children of the war The angry voice The slamming door There's no peace For little ones any more © 1993 Candy Paull
