My Heart Has Wings

Ocean Embrace

Ocean Embrace

Two chemicals called actin and myosin evolved eons ago to allow the muscles in insect wings to contract and relax. Thus, insects learned to fly… The same two proteins are responsible for the beating of the human heart… In our hearts, we feel the impulse to fly, to break free of boundaries. Isn’t that the same impulse nature expressed when insects began to take flight?

The Chinese word for happiness means: open heart

My Heart Has Wings

Contraction, expansion
Closing, opening
The muscles of the heart contract
Then they relax and expand
Actin and myosin
Unseen chemistry in action
Dance of life
Close, open
Contract, expand
Beat like wings in my breast
Like arms spreading
Opening to embrace life
As if in flight
The same chemistry
Is in the wings
Of a butterfly
What was once a caterpillar
Earthbound
Becomes a winged creature
Able to fly
When the butterfly launches
Into the blue sky
So do I
Because my heart has wings
